A prequel to the long-running series Supernatural, titled The Winchesters, is filming in New Orleans for The CW.
The first episode of the series is set to debut on 11 October, as part of The CW's Autumn 2022 schedule for its primetime lineup.
Season 1 of The Winchesters began filming on Monday 25 July in New Orleans, where the pilot was also filmed earlier in April this year. The series will wrap the entire production on 17 October — six days after its television premiere.
As a precursor to Supernatural, the new series brings to the fore how the show's original characters met. Before Sam and Dean, there were their parents, John and Mary. Told from the perspective of narrator Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles, Supernatural), The Winchesters is the epic, untold love story of how John Winchester (Drake Rodger, The In Between) met Mary Campbell (Meg Donnelly, American Housewife) and put it all on the line to not only save their love, but the entire world, explains the synopsis. Further details have been kept under wraps.
Rodger and Donnelly are leading the series as John and Mary. The cast also includes Bianca Kajlich as Millie Winchester, Nida Khurshid as Latika Desai, Michael Tacconi as Hank Murphy, Demetria McKinney as Ada Monroe, and Jojo Fleites as Carlos Cervantez.
The show is written and executive produced by Supernatural's former co-executive producer Robbie Thompson. Jensen and Danneel Ackles executive produce through their company Chaos Machine Productions, and Warner Bros. Television, who also produced Supernatural.
The UK's release date for The Winchesters is to be confirmed.
