The second season of HBO Max's comedy series, Our Flag Means Death, has entered pre-production in New Zealand.
The production update comes three months after the series was renewed for a second season back in June of this year.
Unlike Season 1, which filmed in Los Angeles and Malibu, California, the biographical action-adventure comedy will film Season 2 in a brand-new location, as confirmed by one of the show's stars on social media.
Taking to Instagram to tease the pending New Zealand shoot, Rhys Darby shared a picture alongside his co-star, Samba Schutte. He captioned the post: ”Look who I ran into at my local. Welcome to Aotearoa NZ @sambaschutte #ourflagmeansdeath2.”
The series, created by David Jenkins, is set in the early 18th century during the Golden Age of Piracy. It follows the misadventures of gentleman-turned-pirate Stede Bonnet (Rhys Darby) and his crew aboard the Revenge as they try to make a name for themselves as pirates and cross paths with famed pirate captain Blackbeard (Taika Waititi) and his right-hand-man Izzy Hands (Con O'Neill).
Our Flag Means Death Season 2 will begin filming on 26 September and will wrap mid-December.
Our Flag Means Death is executive produced by Taika Waititi. Series creator and showrunner, Jenkins, executive produces with Garrett Basch and Dan Halsted for HBO Max.
