Lionsgate’s John Wick spin-off movie Ballerina, starring Ana De Armas, is set to shoot in the Czech Republic from 7 November until February next year.
Filming will take place across the capital, Prague, including in front of the Hotel Opera at Těšnov and the Masarykova nádraží train station, among other locations, according to the Prague Reporter.
Len Wiseman (Live Free or Die Hard) is directing Ballerina from a script by Shay Hatten (Army of the Dead). Promising young writer-director Emerald Fennell was brought in to touch up the script.
John Wick studio Lionsgate is backing the project with producers Basil Iwanyk, Erica Lee and Chad Stahelski (the John Wick franchise director will instead be a producer on Ballerina).
Ballerina is expected to focus on the young assassin that appears in John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, whose training takes place at a ballet school. The character sets out to seek revenge against the culprits who were behind her family’s killing.
Barrandov Studios-based Czech Anglo Productions, which handled the recent shoot of The Crow in the Czech Republic, is coordinating local production of Ballerina.
De Armas is proving extremely popular, starring in a number of high-profile films, including Netflix’s The Gray Man and Marilyn Monroe biopic Blonde.
There has been no confirmation that Keanu Reeves will appear in the film, although he has been spotted recently in the Czech Republic.
