Director Destin Daniel Cretton (Shang-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings) has teased production is underway on the upcoming Marvel series, Wonder Man.
The brand new series for Disney+ is filming in Los Angeles, with production expected to wrap early August 2023.
Taking to Instagram last week, Cretton shared a picture of himself in front of the Hollywood sign with a ColourChecker. His caption read: "I love holding cards for @brettsbo," referencing cinematographer Brett Pawlak, who worked with Cretton on earlier projects (excluding Shang-Chi).
Following the cryptic post, netizens soon surmised that filming commenced on Wonder Man, though the studios have made no official announcements.
Wonder Man made his Marvel Comics debut in the pages of Avengers #9 in 1964. Starting out as a villain, he was subsequently retconned and reemerged as a hero (and an Avenger) in the 1970s.
The logline for the series reads: Hollywood actor Simon Williams (Yahya Abdul-Mateen) is thrust into the world of superheroes as he gets powers of his own, and becomes the new superhero Wonder Man.
Marvel are yet to announce the supporting cast.
Andrew Guest serves as head writer on the series, while Cretton executive produces and helms the pilot. Stella Meghie (The Photograph) is also directing several episodes.
