M Night Shyamalan’s's daughter, Ishana, has wrapped production on her directorial debut The Watchers in Bray, county Dublin, following filming in Galway.
The thriller starring Dakota Fanning (War of the Worlds) will play Mina, a 28-year-old artist who gets stranded in an expansive, untouched forest in western Ireland. After seeking shelter, she unknowingly becomes trapped alongside three strangers that are watched and stalked by mysterious creatures each night.
The film also stars Georgina Campbell (Barbarian), and Olwen Fouéré (The Northman).
According to The Irish Film & Television Network The Watchers wrapped production on Sunday (September 3rd) in Bray. Prior to filming in Bray, the production had been shooting in various locations around Galway, including outside Electric nightclub, and in Griffin's bakery which had been redressed as a pet shop for the film.
The Watchers is based on Irish author AM Shine’s novel of the same name, which Ishana adapted for the screen. The film is being produced by Nimitt Mankad (Trumbo), Ashwin Rajan (Old), and M. Night Shyamalan (Signs).
The Watchers marks the debut feature of Ishana Shyamalan, M Night Shymalan’s daughter. She previously directed episodes of her father’s Apple TV+ series Servant.
The production received an Interim Agreement from SAG-AFTRA to continue filming during the Hollywood strikes. Productions with waivers agree to the terms of the latest offer submitted by SAG-AFTRA during contract negotiations, and will also retroactively agree to whatever contract terms are ultimately achieved with the AMPTP when the strike is settled.
Elsewhere, production on M Night Shyamalan's mystery thriller Trap got underway in Cincinnati, Ohio, USA last month.
The project comes after Warner Bros Pictures Group's co-chairs CEOs Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy signed a multi-year first-look directing and producing agreement with the director in February this year.
Per Deadline's initial report, the new agreement sees Shyamalan and his Philadelphia-based outfit Blinding Edge Pictures develop original projects for the filmmaker to produce and/or direct for WBPG production divisions Warner Bros Pictures and New Line Cinema.
The Watchers is slated for release in June, 2024. Trap is slated for theatrical release on August, 2024.
