The Dutchman, starring André Holland and Kate Mara, has secured an interim SAG agreement.

The psychological thriller is based on the award-winning play of the same name by Amiri Baraka and also stars Zazie Beetz and Stephen McKinley Henderson.

Production begins in New York City on September 25th with a crew of approximately 150 (via Deadline).

The story takes place in the confines of a New York City subway car, and centres on the chance encounter between a young Black man and a slightly older white woman. Her flirtations, steeped in racism and manipulation, spur a sexualised game of cat and mouse that careens towards a violent conclusion.

Director and co-writer Andre Gaines will shoot the project on a live MTA subway train in New York City.

He produces via his multi-platform media company Cinemation Studios alongside Jonathan T Baker (Sylvie’s Love, The Banker, and Crown Heights). Joshua Blum and Han West are executive producing for Washington Square Films.
