ZeroZeroZero and Echo 3 filmmaker Pablo Trapero is gearing up to direct a film adaptation of The Tourist for 20th Century.
Based on the New York Times bestselling book series by Olen Steinhauer, the first of which debuted in 2009, the story follows Milo Weaver, an agent in the secret branch of the CIA that specialises in black ops with the code name 'The Tourists'.
Neal H Moritz and Toby Jaffe will produce the feature.
Details about cast and production information have not been released.
According to Deadline, 20th Century anticipates a potential franchise opportunity with The Tourist as it aligns with Trapero's previous directorial success ZeroZeroZero and Echo 3, for their "intense action" scenes.
Trapero’s first feature, Mundo Grua, won the Critics Prize at the 1999 Venice Film Festival. He has subsequently written, directed, and produced many acclaimed films that have played at Cannes, TIFF and Venice.
Trapero’s 2015 feature El Clan opened to critical and commercial success in his home country of Argentina, setting the record for the largest opening-weekend box office of all time. It subsequently premiered at Venice, for which he won the Silver Lion for Best Director.
In 2019, Trapero directed the final episodes of ZeroZeroZero, the crime series for Amazon Prime.
More recently, Trapero was the lead director and executive producer on Apple+ series Echo 3 for Keshet Studios.
