Trees Of Peace's Alanna Brown will direct 'R&B', the first film out of DeVon Franklin and Tyler Perry Studios’ creative partnership with Netflix to produce faith-based films.
The cast has also been confirmed as Empire's Serayah, P-Valley's Tyler Lepley, Phylicia Rashad, BMF's Walnette Santiago, Nijah Brenea, Bad Boys: Ride or Die's James Lee Thomas, Kenneth ‘Babyface’ Edmonds, Genius: Aretha's Jermaine Dupri and Lecrae Moore.
The films will be produced by Franklin and Perry in conjunction with Tyler Perry Studios, with Mike Elliott (Brown Sugar) & Cory Tynan (Play’d) penning the screenplay. Angi Bones, Tony L. Strickland, and Bart Lipton executive produce.
R&B is a modern-day retelling of the story of Ruth and Boaz, one of the most iconic love stories in the Bible. Set in Tennessee where production is taking place, R&B tells the story of a young woman who escapes the Atlanta music scene to care for an elderly widowed woman and in the process finds the love of her life and gains the mother she never had.
Perry’s upcoming projects with Netflix include The Six Triple Eight starring an ensemble cast led by Kerry Washington, and the recently announced drama series Beauty in Black.
Franklin's recent credits include Flamin’ Hot, directed by Eva Longoria and Miracles From Heaven starring Jennifer Garner and Queen Latifah.
