Erdem Tepegoz’s drama The Particle (Zerre) picked up the Golden George award for best film at the Moscow International Film Festival (MIFF) on Saturday. The Turkish film also collected the trophy for best actress, which was awarded to Jale Arıkan.
The film centres on Zeynep (Arıkan) and her mother and disabled daughter trying to survive in an abandoned apartment. Other winners at the festival – now in its 35th year – included Young-heon in the best director category for his film Lebanon Emotion (Le-ba-non Kam-jeong, South Korea); The Ravine of Goodbye (Japan), which won the jury's special prize, and Alexei Shevchenkov for best actor in Judas (Russia).
The film closed with a screening of Gerard Depardieu's new film Rasputin.
