Veteran screen actor Malcolm McDowell is to play German composer Richard Strauss in a historical biopic set to shoot in Prague and Munich next year.
The controversial composer, whose operas include Salome and Der Rosenkavalier, was a favourite of Hitler, and in 1933 was appointed president of the newly founded State Music Bureau, the Reichsmusikkammer.
Called Legacy of Fire, the film is part of Haas Silver Levene’s (HSL) extensive slate of real-life stories, and will be based at Barrandov Studios in Prague and in Munich in the spring/summer of 2015.
The project’s lead producer is Timothy Haas of HSL. Haas is also busy in pre-production on another major biopic, Banking on Mr Toad, which stars Adrien Brody as Wind in the Willows author Kenneth Grahame; Brody also produces the feature which will shoot in the UK.
