The upcoming sequel to 2014's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is preparing to come back to New York. Hosting the original production in The Empire State benefitted Paramount highly with their tax incentives and provided cohesion with the comic book narrative, which was also set in New York.
Filming on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 is planned to begin in May with the production team working with the Buffalo Niagara Film Commission to secure locations that may work well for the movie.
Empire State Development officials confirmed that the project will be shot in Buffalo and New York City because of both locations resources and the incentives that are now offered under the New York State Film Production Tax Credit Program which began two years ago.
According to the officials over 1,000 people will be employed during filming, with an estimated $70m directly impacting the Buffalo and New York City areas.
Principal photography will begin next month in New York City with the movie scheduled to be released in summer 2016.
