South Australia’s new uncapped rebate for Post-Production, Digital and Visual Effects (PDV) is now in operation, replacing the previous grant that was limited to AUS$150,000 per production.
The aim is to strengthen the state’s appeal to big-budget international productions with a 10% rebate of their South Australian expenditure which, when combined with the government’s PDV offset of 30%, means that post-production companies in the area can now offer a hefty 40% rebate to inward investment projects.
The new incentive was launched by the South Australian Film Corporation last month, reflecting the fact that the VFX industry is one of the state’s fastest-growing sectors.
South Australia already has several incentives in place, including payroll tax exemption, a short film production grant and a screen production investment scheme to support drama and documentary.
Recent high-profile features to have filmed in South Australia include the post-apocalyptic thriller Cargo starring Martin Freeman.
