Mark Wahlberg and Connie Britton are filming in Utah for movie Good Joe Bell, with incentive support from the Utah Film Commission.

The film is based on the true story of Joe Bell, an Oregon father who in 2013 set out on a walk across the US as a tribute to his late son.

Reinaldo Marcus Green is directing the movie, which will shoot in and around Salt Lake City.

Utah is building its US production profile. Filmmaker Taylor Sheridan has been the most prolific repeat-visitor to the western state, having shot locally for TV drama Yellowstone and frontier crime movie Wind River.

HBO’s drama series Westworld has also filmed in the state, supplementing a California-based shoot.

Utah offers filming incentive support of up to 25% of qualifying spend as either a tax credit or a rebate, but has a relatively small annual fund of $8.3m.
