Alicia Vikander is starring in conspiracy thriller Born to Be Murdered in Greece alongside a cast that includes John David Washington, Vicky Krieps and Boyd Holbrook.

Ferdinando Cito Filomarino is directing the film that is set in capital Athens and in the Epirus region of western Greece, according to a Deadline report.

The movie has considerable behind-the-scenes involvement from veterans of the Oscar-winning Call Me by Your Name, including Luca Guadagnino, who is producing, and director of photography Sayombhu Mukdeeprom.

Filomarino himself was second unit director on Call Me by Your Name and also on Guadagnino’s other recent films A Bigger Splash and Suspiria.

Greece has had a profile boost in Europe since launching a 35% cash rebate as its first national filming incentive this time last year.

The country also offers a filming tax credit as an additional incentive, though the government is still finalising the details of how the two programmes will operate together.

Michael Winterbottom’s feature Greed has been one of the highest-profile international films to shoot in Greece in recent months and involved production on the island of Mykonos.

The Hellenic Film Commission in Athens is one of the country’s main sources of production support.
