Dune movie gets TV drama spinoff

The new Dune movie currently in production from director Denis Villeneuve is to get an accompanying drama as a spinoff series.

Legendary Television will produce Dune: The Sisterhood as a drama that will explore the broader story world of the Dune universe from the perspective of a mysterious order of women known as the Bene Gesserit.

The Bene Gesserit are able to manipulate the politics of the Dune story world through their collective mastery of body and mind.

Production on the new film is underway in Budapest and Jordan, and will reportedly be divided into two separate features for release.

Villeneuve (pictured) is scheduled to direct and executive produce the first episode of the spinoff drama, in addition to his duties on the film.

Legendary is working on Dune projects that span multimedia, including videogames and comic books.
