Netflix sci-fi feature to film in Budapest

A new Netflix film starring Avengers actor Anthony Mackie is setting up to shoot in Budapest.

Outside the Wire will film on location in the Hungarian capital for eight weeks from early August, with Mikail Hafstrom directing from a screenplay by Arash Amel, Rowan Athale and Rob Yescombe.

The project comes from 42 Films, Automatik and Inspire Entertainment. According to a Deadline report, Mackie plays a drone pilot tasked with entering a deadly militarised zone to locate a doomsday device.

Budapest is a major production hub, frequently hosting big-budget films and high-end TV dramas, including Blade Runner 2049, Dune, Emerald City and The Last Kingdom.

Hungary offers two world-class filming facilities – Origo Film Studios and Korda Studios which, along with a 30% tax rebate scheme and a large pool of experienced crew, is an appealing factor for producers.
