A major new Netflix adaptation of Leigh Bardugo’s bestselling Shadow and Bone books is in pre-production in Budapest readying for an autumn shoot.
Eric Heisserer has adapted the original source material and will also be showrunner on the eight-episode run, which is based on Bardugo’s Shadow and Bone and Six of Crows Grishaverse fantasy novels.
The books have sold more than 2.5 millions copies in the English language and translated into 38 languages to date.
Bardugo is among the executive producers on board the hefty new drama, working alongside Pouya Shahbazian for New Leaf Literary & Media and Shawn Levy, Dan Levine, Dan Cohen and Josh Barry for 21 Laps.
Shadow and Bone is based at Origo Studios and will also film on various locations in and around Budapest from early October.
The Hungarian capital is a high-profile production hub, attracting big-budget feature films as well as high-end TV dramas. Recent productions include Blade Runner 2049 and Denis Villeneuve’s Dune, which is currently filming.
