The sixth series of Outlander begins filming tomorrow, 7th January, one of the first new productions to get cameras rolling during lockdown in the UK.
The show is filmed in Scotland with its production base at Wardpark Studios, Cumbernauld; the government recently cleared the way for production to continue during lockdown, while following all relevant safety regulations.
The Scottish government site also advises that productions follow the BFC guidance that became the crucial trigger for a return to UK production last summer, and which is seen by many as the gold standard in ensuring the screen sector can continue to operate.
Outlander is based on the time-travelling series of novels by Diana Gabaldon and was developed by Ronald D Moore. The first series was produced in 2013; the sixth series that begins shooting this week comprises 12 episodes and is based on the book A Breath of Snow and Ashes.
Scotland’s profile as an international filming hub continues to rise, with the announcement last year that First Stage Studios would run the major filming facility at Edinburgh's Port of Leith, which was used by Avengers: Infinity War.
