Season three of Netflix’s fantasy series, The Witcher, starring Henry Cavill, is expected to film in Morocco this month and then move to Costa Rica at the end of next month.
According to reports and KFTV sources, filming has moved from South Wales to Erfoud, Morocco, likely doubling it for the Korath desert featured in the series. This is the first time the series will shoot in Morocco, which has proved to be an extremely popular filming location, recently hosting the likes of The Forgiven, starring Ralph Fiennes, and BBC drama series SAS: Rogue Heroes.
Costa Rica would also be a new choice. The country recently set up a package of filming incentives, incuding a 17% return on all budget lines invested in Costa Rica without a cap. This has helped attract several projects from the likes of National Geographic, Amazon, Hulu, Discovery Channel, Netflix, HBO and Disney.
Season three of The Witcher may also do establishing shots in the Maldives at the end of September.
Filming of the third season has already been taking place in several locations, including Longcross Studios in the UK, the frozen lake Laghi di Fusine in northern Italy, the castle-like St. Jerome’s church in Slovenia’s Nanos plateau, the Predjama Castle also in Slovenia and the Zala Stara Baska beach on the Croatian island of Krk.
Lauren Schmidt Hissrich is creator and showrunner on The Witcher, which based on the book series of the same name by Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski. Henry Cavill stars as Geralt of Rivia. The Witcher world has already expanded into a prequel drama, The Witcher: Blood Origin and an adult animated prequel, The Witcher: The Nightmare of the Wolf.
Season 2 of The Witcher also filmed across several locations, including Arborfield Studios in the UK, Scotland, Slovakia and the Czech Republic.
