A South Korean series - inspired by Hitoshi Iwaaki’s sci-fi manga comic books - Parasyte: The Grey is underway for Netflix.
The story centres on unidentified, parasitic life-forms that live off of human hosts and strive to grow their power. As they start to disrupt society, a group of humans wage war against the rising evil.
The live-action adaptation will be directed and co-written by Hellbound creator and Train To Busan and Peninsula filmmaker, Yeon Sang-ho. It is written by Yeon and Ryu Yong-jae. Climax Studio (Hellbound, D.P.) and WOW POINT are managing the production.
Jeon So-nee, Koo Kyo-hwan and Lee Jung-hyun lead the cast. Jeon plays Jeong Su-in who falls victim to a parasite, and when it fails to take over her brain, she enters a bizarre coexistence with it. Koo plays Seol Kang-woo who tracks down parasites in order to find his missing sister. Lee plays Choi Jun-kyung, the team leader of Team Grey, a task force battling parasites. Having lost her husband to these invasive life-forms, she devotes herself to their demise.
Hitoshi's original comic book series Parasyte about invasive life-forms that seize and control human bodies sold over 25m copies over 20 territories and countries.
Parasyte: The Grey will premiere globally on Netflix with dates to be announced.
