Production is underway in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada on the upcoming Disney+ series, The Spiderwick Chronicles.
Director Kat Coiro (Marry Me, Modern Family) - who is directing the first two episodes - took to Instagram Stories earlier this week to confirm principal photography commenced in the city on 12 September, and is expected to wrap on 27 January, 2023.
The six-part, live-action series is based on the best-selling children’s books by Tony DiTerlizzi and Holly Black. It follows the Grace family — twin brothers Jared and Simon, sister Mallory and their mother Helen — as they move into their great-great uncle’s home and discover a world of fairies that exists parallel to their own.
The series stars Lyon Daniels and Noah Cottrell in lead roles who play twin brothers, Jared and Simon Grace.
A character description reveals: ”Jared is the adventurous, intelligent, and impetuous twin brother who has struggled with anger issues. Simon is the more thinking, reasonable twin who is an animal lover - Jared's polar opposite in every way. The twins have been together since birth, and they even have their own twin language, yet resentments are rising between them, threatening to break their brotherly bond.”
Disney+ describes the new, live-action adaptation as a ”modern coming-of-age story combined with fantasy adventure.”
Paramount Television Studios and 20th Television are producing the series. Louie Blue Productions Inc is the local production company. Aron Eli Coleite (Locke & Key) is the series showrunner and exec producer along with original authors Black and DiTerlizzi. Jeremy Bell, Ellen Goldsmith-Vein, D.J. Goldberg, Grace Gilroy, and Julie Kane-Ritsch also exec produce.
