Something in the Water, an all-female shark survival thriller from StudioCanal UK, is now shooting on location in the Dominican Republic.
Hayley Easton Street directs the feature, that stars Hiftu Quasem, Lauren Lyle, Natalie Mitson, Nicole Rieko Setsuko and Ellouise Shakespeare-Hart.
Easton Street, best known until now for her work as art director on films such as Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and Justice League, is calling the shots from a screenplay by Cat Clarke (Ten Percent, Good Omens) and produced by Julie Baines (Triangle and Four Kids and It).
The plot centres on a dream wedding that turns into a nightmare when five girlfriends fight for their lives in open water. Dan Films and StudioCanal UK produce.
Easton Street said: This is an elevated survival film, unlike anything else I've worked on, with incredible strong female leads at the heart of the story.
“Something in the Water will be an emotional and visual experience, putting the audience at the centre of the action and using seamless VFX to bring the terror to life. I couldn't be more excited to helm this movie.
The Dominican Republic is proving to be a popular filming location, often doubling for Latin American locales. It also has a 60,500 sq ft horizon water tank with blue-screen capabilities at Pinewood Dominican Republic Studios, which recently hosted M. Night Shyamalan's film Old.
