The fifth in the series of the Ghostbusters features enters production this week (w/c 20 March) in the UK, with some shooting also due to take place in NYC.
The film follows the success of Ghostbusters: Afterlife, which grossed more than $200m worldwide in 2021.
The co-writers of that film, Gil Kenan and Jason Reitman, are behind the screenplay for the fifth movie too, with Kenan also taking the director’s chair.
After the success of Ghostbusters: Afterlife, Reitman and Kenan signed an overall producing deal with Sony Pictures. The pair said at the time: “We’re excited to have evolved our storytelling partnership into a full-fledged production company and couldn’t be more proud to have a home at Sony Pictures, the studio most committed to the theatrical movie going experience.”
Deadline has reported that the fifth film will see the return of lead cast, Finn Wolfhard, Carrie Coon and McKenna Grace, as well as Paul Rudd as Gary Grooberson. Kenan was quoted on the outlet as saying: “It’s an absolute honor to pick up the proton pack and step behind the camera for the next chapter of the Spengler family saga.
“I just wish I could go back to 1984 and tell the kid in the sixth row of the Mann Valley West that one day he was going to get to direct a Ghostbusters film.”
