Cameras are rolling in Utah on parts two and three of Kevin Costner's epic western Horizon, an American Saga.
In June 2022, Kevin Costner stated his ambition to make four Horizon films in total, shot back-to-back. In November 2022, the actor-director confirmed that the first film had wrapped in the Moab area of Utah.
Production has now started on parts two and three of the western saga in southern Utah. According to KSL TV, crews started arriving in the St. George area in January and filming started mid-April for parts two and three. The sequels will also be filmed in various locations in Washington County.
The films will follow a 15-year span of pre- and post-Civil War expansion and settlement of the American West. Experienced through the eyes of many, the epic journey is fraught with peril and intrigue from the constant onslaught of natural elements to the interactions with the Indigenous peoples who lived on the land and the determination and at many times ruthlessness of those who sought to settle it.
The second chapter will also see the return of Costner, Sienna Miller, Sam Worthington, Ella Hunt, Will Patton, Luke Wilson, Isabelle Fuhrman and Thomas Haden Church.
Costner wrote the script with Jon Baird (The Explorers Guild) and is producing through his Territory Pictures. Re-joining him for the second instalment are director of photography J. Michael Muro (Billionaire Boys Club, Parker), production designer Derek R. Hill (Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, The Magnificent Seven), editor Miklos Wright (For All Mankind, Open Range) and costume designer Lisa Lovaas (Ambulance, Transformers: The Last Knight).
A New Line Cinema presentation of a Territory Pictures production, the film saga will be distributed in the US by Warner Bros. Pictures.
