The Kelly Clarkson Show will move production from the Universal lot in Los Angeles to NBC Studios in 30 Rockefeller Plaza in New York next season, as confirmed to Variety by a NBCUniversal spokesperson.
The move was spurred by the recent expansion of the New York State film and TV tax credits by governor Kathy Hochul.
The rebate program includes an incentive to eligible television productions that relocate to New York.
It also reduces the eligibility requirements for talk and variety shows to two years (from the original five years of filming).
Sources close the production told Variety that while physical production of the show is moving to New York, details are still being ironed out regarding the show’s entire staff. Since 2019, they have been based in Los Angeles, California.
Confirmed to make the move are Clarkson, along with her executive producer and showrunner, Alex Duda, and her longtime musical director, Jason Halbert.
Clarkson's talk show will film before a live studio audience in the renowned studio 6A. It has also been used by Jimmy Fallon, Conan O’Brien and David Letterman.
A new state-of-the-art studio will be built for Clarkson’s show, as well as technical facility and support space.
For the 2022-2023 season, it ranked third among daytime syndicated shows, averaging 1.37 million daily viewers. It has consecutively grown season-to-season and has also won 13 daytime Emmys.
