Zagreb, Croatia is currently playing host to director Dominik Sedlar’s (The Match, The Conversation) latest WWII feature Vindicta.
At the height of WWII, A young 19-year-old girl, Hannah is driven to madness in a blood thirsty quest for vengeance against the invading army who killed her family.
The film will star up-and-coming actors Devon Ross (HBO’s Irma Veep) in the lead role as Hannah, alongside Jack Bandeira (Happy Valley, Black Mirror and The Duke) as the male lead Klaus. British Actor Sam Hazeldine (Peaky Blinders, Slow Horses, The Huntsman: Winter’s War and The Raven) will play SS Officer Otto Becker. Pip Torrens (Succession, The Crown, Star Wars Episode VII – The Force Awakens, The Danish Girl, Tomorrow Never Dies), Suzanne Bertish (The Nun II, Magic Mike’s Last Dance, Benediction) & Anna Madeley (Secret Invasion, In Bruges, The Nutcracker & The Four Realms) are all attached to join the film in supporting roles.
The film will be produced by industry veteran and Academy Award-nominated Austrian producer Veit Heiduschka (Amour, The White Ribbon, Hidden Cache) and Sedlar.
"In just one moment 19-year-old Hannah’s world shatters when her parents are murdered in front of her. After fleeing, she seeks refuge with family friends before becoming the embodiment of rage and revenge towards those responsible for destroying her life. An unexpected connection with a handsome young Nazi Officer (Klaus) generates a moment of respite, but she is consumed by vengeance at any cost, no matter what or when," reads the logline.
A rep for the film told KFTV that this is the third feature the director has shot in Croatia; all of them so far have been inspired by true events in and around WWII.
Croatia Film is involved with partial finance, and the vast majority of the below-the-line crew is Croatian. Principle photography will take place in Croatia and part of the production will take place at Luznica castle in Croatia. The film is being shot with an Equity or Non-Union European cast.
The creative team includes director of photography David McFarland (12 Angry Orphans, Diary of a Spy, The Ballad of Lefty Brown), award winning set designer Ivo Husnjak (Black Hawk Down, Kingdom of Heaven) with Zeljko Zima of Croatia Film, Stephen Ollendorff of The Ollendorff Center (The Match) and Alan Green (Equal Standard, Atoman) serving as producers. Wendy Benge (The Butler, Life After Beth) also produces alongside casting's Ilenka Jelowicki based in London, who is also producing.
