Netflix's Black Doves starring Keira Knightley drama begins filming in the UK this week.
Set at Christmas, and against a backdrop of diplomatic tension, Knightley plays Helen, a woman with a secret identity who has an affair, until her lover becomes a victim of London’s underworld.
To protect Helen, her employers deploy an old friend of hers, Sam, and the pair undertake a dangerous mission.
According Netflix's tagline,“‘Black Doves is the story of two old friends coming back together, finding trust in one another in a world where trust can get you killed and, ultimately, changing the course of each other’s lives forever.”
The drama series is created and written by Joe Barton and produced by his prodco Noisy Bear and SISTER. Barton and Knightley exec produce alongside SISTER’s Jane Featherstone and Chris Fry.
Black Doves was announced earlier this year, alongside other Netflix titles, drama Department Q and feature film Bank of Dave: The Sequel.
At the time of the triple-commission announcement, Netflix’ UK VP for content, Anne Mensah, said: “It’s no secret that the U.K. produces some of the world’s most iconic entertainment.
"This is true for Netflix, too – from ‘Top Boy’ to ‘The Crown,’ ‘Heartstopper’ to ‘The Tinder Swindler’ – our productions are some of the buzziest, most watched and zeitgeist defining in the world. We are deeply committed to the U.K.”
