Lisa McGee’s Netflix series How To Get To Heaven From Belfast has commenced production in Northern Ireland.

McGee has reunited with Derry Girls director Michael Lennox and its producer Brian J. Falconer of Hat Trick Productions for this eight-part comedy-thriller series.

The lead cast includes Roísín Gallagher, Sinéad Keenan, and Caoilfhionn Dunne who portray three women in their late 30s who have remained close friends since childhood. The women’s lives are thrown into chaos upon learning that the fourth, estranged, member of their friendship group has died. The news incites an emotional and unpredictable journey through Northern Ireland as they uncover pieces of themselves and the past.

The original series moved over to Netflix from Channel 4, home of Derry Girls in March. In explanation of the move, a Channel 4 spokesperson cited “changes in editorial direction” as well as “rising costs”.
