Illinois governor JB Pritzker has signed a bill expanding the state's film production services tax credit to allow national talk shows, contests, and game shows to participate in the programme.

According to Olsberg SPI's Economic Impact Study, commissioned by the Illinois Production Alliance, the state's tax credit has been a key driver of production in Illinois. The study reveals that the credits brought a $6.81 return on investment for every dollar spent, resulting in more than $3.6 billion in economic activity from 2017 through 2022.

Approximately 94% of current film and television production in the state is attributable to the program. Productions filmed in Illinois include FX's The Bear, David Fincher's The Killer, and Apple TV+'s Dark Matter.

The Illinois film production services tax credit includes 30% of the qualified Illinois production spending, 30% credit on Illinois salaries up to $500,000 per worker, and 30% of non-resident labour up to $500,000 per worker for up to nine (9) non-resident employees in the following positions director, writer, director of photography, production designer, costume designer, production accountant, VFX supervisor, editor, composer, actor for work performed in Illinois.
