Apple TV+'s Lady In The Lake, directed by Alma Har’el, generated more than $100 million during its production in Maryland according to the office of the Governor.

Created and directed by Alma Har’el and based on the novel by Laura Lippman, Lady in the Lake takes place in 1960s Baltimore and stars Natalie Portman and Moses Ingram.

Portman stars as Maddie Schwartz, a Jewish housewife seeking to shed a secret past and reinvent herself as an investigative journalist. Ingram stars as Cleo Johnson, a mother navigating the political underbelly of Black Baltimore while struggling to provide for her family. When Maddie becomes fixated on Cleo’s mystifying death, a chasm opens that puts everyone around them in danger.

The production utilised the Maryland Film Production Activity Tax Credit, a refundable tax credit up to 28% of the total authorised direct costs of a film production activity, and created 1,132 Maryland jobs; utilized goods and services from 2,456 local businesses; and paid for more than 32,000 hotel room nights according to the statement.

Produced by television studio Fifth Season with Crazyrose and Bad Wolf, Lady In The Lake is executive produced, written and directed by Har’el alongside producing partner Christopher Leggett.

Portman also serves as executive producer alongside producing partner Sophie Mas. Crazyrose principal Nathan Ross and the late Jean-Marc Vallée also serve as executive producers, and Julie Gardner executive produces for Bad Wolf America. Layne Eskridge, Amy Kaufman, Boaz Yakin, and author Lippmann also executive produce.
