Veteran Icelandic director Baltasar Kormákur will direct the premiere episode and steer the creative across the series.

BBC's and RVK Studios' King and Conqueror, an eight-part historical drama starring James Norton, has wrapped filming in Iceland, with further cast confirmed.

King and Conqueror tells the story of the clash between William of Normandy and Harold of Wessex and the political machinations that followed and is produced by UK's The Development Partnership, Rabbit Track Pictures, Shepherd Content, CBS Studios, and Iceland's RVK Studios.

Previously announced to star in the series are James Norton as Harold, Earl of Wessex and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau as William, Duke of Normandy.

Also starring are Emily Beecham as Edith Swan-neck, Clémence Poésy as Matilda, Eddie Marsan as King Edward, Juliet Stevenson as Lady Emma, Jean-Marc Barr as King Henry, Luther Ford as Tostig, Geoff Bell as Godwin, Elliott Cowan as Sweyn, Bo Bragason as Queen Gunhild, Bjarne Henriksen as Earl Siward, Olivier Masucci as Baldwin and Clare Holman as Gytha.

Further cast announced today includes Elander Moore as Morcar, Indy Lewis as Margaret, Jason Forbes as Thane Thomas, Ingvar Sigurdsson as Fitzosbern, Ines Asserson as Judith, Sveinn Ólafur Gunnarsson as Hardrada.

The series is created, written, and executive produced by Michael Robert Johnson. Baltasar Kormákur will direct the premiere episode and, as executive producer, will steer the creative across the series. 

Further executive producers also include James Norton and Kitty Kaletsky for Rabbit Track Pictures, Kormákur for RVK Studios, Robert Taylor for The Development Partnership, Dave Clarke and Richard Halliwell for Shepherd Content, Ed Clarke, Robert Jones, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Baltasar Kormákur and CBS Studios’ Lindsey Martin.

The BBC has acquired broadcasting rights for the series in the United Kingdom and it will be distributed outside of the UK by Paramount Global Content Distribution.
