MGM Television's 'The Handmaid's Tale' final season begins production

Production was initially scheduled for 2023 but was delayed due to SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes.

Hulu has commenced production on the final season of MGM Television's The Handmaid's Tale starring Elisabeth Moss in Toronto.

The sixth season will be the show's final. The show is based on the book of the same name by Margaret Atwood. 

Like its previous seasons, the final season is filming in Toronto, Canada. Season five is currently streaming, and picks up with June (played by Moss) facing consequences for killing Commander Waterford (Joseph Fiennes) while struggling to redefine her identity and purpose while fighting alongside Luke (O.T. Fagbenle) and Moira (Samira Wiley) to save and reunite with Hannah.

Meanwhile, widowed Serena (Yvonne Strahovski) attempts to raise her profile in Toronto as Gilead's influence creeps into Canada and Commander Lawrence (Bradley Whitford) works with Nick (Max Minghella) and Aunt Lydia (Ann Dowd) as he tries to reform Gilead and rise in power. 

Season five has added Madeline Brewer, Amanda Brugel, Sam Jaeger, and McKenna Grace to the cast.

The Handmaid’s Tale is produced by MGM Television and executive produced by Bruce Miller, Warren Littlefield, Elisabeth Moss, Daniel Wilson, Fran Sears, Eric Tuchman, Yahlin Chang, Rachel Shukert, Sheila Hockin, John Weber, Frank Siracusa, Steve Stark and Kim Todd.
