Screentime New Zealand, part of Banijay Entertainment, has launched Remarkable Studios NZ based in Queenstown.
The unit will stand as the town’s largest wet weather cover and first studio facility. Spearheaded by the production label’s CEO, Philly Delacey, the all-new offering is set to transform television and film capabilities in the area, prompting local creative sector growth and employment.
Queenstown was famously used as the backdrop to the Lord Of The Rings trilogy, but the nearest studio space was in Auckland. Remarkable Studios NZ is five minutes from Queenstown airport, providing studio space solutions for crews both in New Zealand and further afield.
Remarkable Studios NZ is a fully sound-proofed 2300sqm studio, transformed from a recently vacated and re-purposed department store. The studio features office areas, construction spaces, general facilities and a fully functioning loading bay away from the filming space. During its first production stint, the space carried four individual sets and held 150 production personnel, proving its capacity to house not only dramas, but films and entertainment offerings too.
The space was previously rented by the Screentime NZ team for its five-month shoot on A Remarkable Place to Die, debuting at MIPCOM ’24.
In hosting Remarkable Studios NZ, Queenstown can now be considered a primary production base for productions rather than purely a location base or second unit shoot option.
