Studiocanal has revealed the development of Red Butterfly produced in partnership with Singapore-based Beach House and Momo Film Co.
The eight-part series follows the rise of an all-female gang run by two sisters set in 1950s Singapore, the glamorous but lawless 'Wild West' of Asia.
Red Butterfly will be filmed in English and Chinese languages on location in Singapore and Malaysia.
Co-creator Constance Cheng whose credits include Hulu's The Great and Prime Video's Rings of Power will write and serve as showrunner. Fellow co-creator Kris Ong will also write on the project.
The fight choreography will be supported by Martial Club founded by the Le Brothers and Daniel Mah. Studio Canal will distribute the series internationally handling worldwide sales.

Singapore-based Beach House, part of Fremantle, was established in 2005 by Donovan Chan and Jocelyn Little and is one of Asia's largest independent TV and Film production companies. Its unscripted credits include Mind Your Manners, Missing: the Lucie Blackman Case and Masterchef Singapore. Its first scripted production was Mr Midnight for Netflix. In 2021, BHP acquired a majority stake in Singapore-based Momo Film Co.
Founded in 2018, Singapore-based Momo Film Co is helmed by producer Tan Si En. Its recent highlights include Dong Dieu Linh's debut Don't Cry, Butterfly which won the Grand Prize at Venice Critics' Week 2024.
