Shootjit Sircar's untitled slice-of-life drama starring Abhishek Bachchan is set to shoot this August in the US.
The feature will be backed by producer Ronnie Lahiri.
Indian outlet Pinkvilla had earlier reported that Bachchan and Sircar had been wanting to work together for some time, and deemed the story fitting for their first collaboration.
“A large portion of the film is set in the US, and Shoojit along with Ronnie have already begun their recce for the project. As of now, they are planning to start shooting from August, and will be there for a while. Shoojit has worked a lot with Mr Amitabh Bachchan in the past, and he is excited to collaborate with Abhishek now for a film. He is playing a very unique character, something that he has never portrayed on the big screen before,” a source told Pink Villa.
As stated above, while Sircar's project with Bachchan Jr lies in wait, the director has already forged a strong relationship with Abhishek's father and veteran actor - having worked on four films - thrice as a director: Shoebite, Piku (2015) and Gulabo Sitabo (2020), and once as a producer on Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury’s 2016 legal-thriller film Pink.
Abhishek, who was recently seen in Breathe: Into the Shadows Season 2, will next feature in filmmaker R Balki’s Ghoomer, which also stars Shabana Azmi, Saiyami Kher, Angad Bedi and Shivendra Singh Dungarpur. He also has a special appearance in Ajay Devgn’s upcoming action-thriller, Bholaa, which is the official Hindi remake of the 2019 Tamil film - Kaithi.
Sircar's last directorial outing was the Vicky Kaushal-led Sardar Udham. He made his directorial debut with the romantic war drama Yahaan in 2005. He rose to fame in Hindi cinema with romantic comedy Vicky Donor in 2012, for which he received the National Film Award for 'Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment'.
